UNRWA Warns About The worst humanitarian crisis to hit Gaza since the start of the war

Gaza: UNRWA has issued one of its starkest warnings yet, declaring that the Gaza Strip is likely enduring its worst humanitarian crisis since the war began in October 2023.

In a statement posted on X), UNRWA said that “intensified Israeli bombardments from air, land, and sea have resulted in hundreds of casualties and mass displacement.” The agency emphasized that for 11 consecutive weeks, Israeli authorities have deliberately blocked all humanitarian supplies into Gaza.

“The only thing entering Gaza right now are bombs,” the agency stated bluntly. “Nowhere is safe.”

The comment comes amid escalating air and ground operations by Israeli forces in both northern and southern Gaza, including recent heavy attacks on Beit Lahiya and Khan Younis, where hospitals have been overwhelmed by casualties.

Humanitarian access has been choked off almost entirely, with UN agencies and NGOs warning that food, fuel, medicine, and clean water are nearly impossible to deliver. Aid trucks remain stalled at border crossings, with only limited and sporadic shipments allowed in—nowhere near the level required for over 2.3 million people trapped in the besieged enclave.

The UN’s assertion that “nowhere is safe” reflects growing alarm over the scale and intensity of the bombardments. Makeshift shelters, hospitals, schools, and even designated “safe zones” have been repeatedly hit in recent weeks.

International pressure on Israel to ease the blockade has intensified. European leaders, including France, have described Israel’s partial easing of restrictions as “totally insufficient”, and calls for a full ceasefire and unimpeded humanitarian access continue to mount.

With Gaza’s infrastructure shattered, food insecurity surging, and famine looming, aid workers and UN officials say the strip is now at a breaking point—not just from bombs, but from what many describe as a man-made catastrophe unfolding in plain sight.
